We stopped arguing about money. We now review it weekly with clarity and sufficiency.
→ Financial AlignmentWe finally have a giving plan that reflects our values — not just our anxiety.
→ Grace-Grounded GivingThis gave me a framework I can actually teach. My congregation felt the difference immediately.
→ Leadership ConfidenceGod did not hand Moses a spreadsheet — yet what Scripture reveals about stewardship, sufficiency, and generosity has been quietly validated by every major professional financial standard ever written.
"The Grace Formula is not an innovation. It is a rediscovery of what was always true."
"For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure."
Fiduciary Duty (CFP® Standards): The advisor's role is to serve the client's interest — not manufacture outcomes through willpower alone. Faithful stewardship begins with a posture of service, not control.
"But godliness with contentment is great gain… if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content."
AICPA Personal Financial Planning Standards: Sustainable financial plans are built around lifestyle sufficiency targets — not maximum accumulation. "Enough" is a planning objective, not a failure.
"Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce."
Charitable Giving Best Practices (NCPG / AFP): Donor-advised funds and planned giving programs structurally prioritize giving before spending — the "pay-it-forward" principle embedded in modern philanthropy.
"Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man's dwelling, but a foolish man devours it."
FASB ASC 958 / Nonprofit Reserve Policies: Organizations are expected to maintain operating reserves. Individuals are counseled to build 3–6 month emergency funds. Scripture called it prudence first.
"The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender."
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Debt Standards: Debt-to-income ratio guidelines and credit counseling frameworks reflect Scripture's warning — leverage creates dependency that limits freedom.
"A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight."
GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles): The entire edifice of financial reporting — fair value, full disclosure, consistent measurement — is an institutional commitment to just weights. God said it first.
"Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed."
CFP® Code of Ethics — Collaborative Planning: Comprehensive financial planning requires a team of advisors. The solo advisor model is considered insufficient for complex planning. Scripture built the case for advisory teams.
"A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
Estate Planning Standards (ACTEC / ABA): Multi-generational trust planning and legacy giving structures are the profession's formal recognition that wealth carries a stewardship obligation across time.
"Divide your portion to seven, or even to eight, for you do not know what misfortune may occur on the earth."
Modern Portfolio Theory (Markowitz, 1952) / FINRA Suitability: Diversification is the cornerstone of investment risk management. Ecclesiastes 11:2 is the oldest recorded diversification instruction known.
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men."
Behavioral Economics / Human Capital Theory: Economists now model human capital — skills, vocation, and earned income — as the largest asset most households own. Scripture called it calling. Finance caught up.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."
Financial Therapy Association (FTA) Standards: The emerging field of financial therapy recognizes that financial behavior is driven by beliefs and emotions, not just math. Paul described the clinical solution in the first century.
"One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want."
Behavioral Finance (Thaler, Kahneman): Loss aversion — the psychological tendency to hoard — is now documented as the enemy of rational financial decision-making. Scripture named the cure: open-handed generosity.
"Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil."
Time Value of Money (TVM) — Core Financial Principle: Every financial calculation — NPV, IRR, compound interest — rests on the premise that time is a non-renewable asset with measurable economic value.
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price."
Long-Term Care Planning / Health Savings Accounts (IRS): Health care costs are now the largest threat to retirement security. Financial planners treat physical health as a balance-sheet item. Scripture treated it as sacred stewardship.
"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together… but encouraging one another."
Social Capital Research / Community Reinvestment Act (CRA): Economists now document that social connectedness predicts financial resilience. Isolated households are measurably more financially vulnerable. Paul called it the body of Christ.
